Carved masks, mirrors in the face, embroidery aprons, hats and collars are part of the clothes that the participants of the Dance of the Kurpites wear, a tradition of San Juan Nuevo.

This dance is performed by youngster under 20 years that dance in front of their girlfriend’s houses to court them. The girlfriends make the aprons.

The dynamic of the dance consist of a contest between the youngsters of the San Mateo and San Miguel neighborhoods.

The opportunity to meet this purepechan party, one of the oldest, which also consists of a contest of the best masks. The pieces are made by the artisans of the region and are given to the dancer of the year.
